Searching with PowerSearch Plus
Searching with PowerSearch Plus is simple and intuitive. In fact, search techniques and results mirror those of our databases currently on the PowerSearch platform including the ability to conduct a ‘visual search’ in addition to basic, subject, publication and advanced search options.
The Additional Databases tab is where patrons easily access information from non-Gale and Gale databases currently on the PowerSearch platform. Here, results are presented by major topics using state of the art clustering methodology.
For example, a search on global warming may present subjects like the Greenhouse Effect and Emissions in nested tree format.
Visual search functionality uses color, shape and size to enhance the display of categories and subcategories of topics and is ideal for people who prefer a graphic alternative to textual search options. With visual search, databases display search results in topically-collected visual maps, making it easier for your patrons to explore large sets of search results. The visual map consists of circles and squares. Circles represent the categories into which the search results are grouped. Squares represent the articles. Patrons just click inside a circle to zoom in and view its contents or mouse over a circle or square to read a description.
