History Resource Center: U.S. provides a complete overview of U.S. history covering the most-studied events, issues and current information. Selected by expert history advisors for its relevance to the undergraduate curriculum, the database combines primary source material, classic reference sources, articles from scholarly journals, special reference collections, and innovative online features that help users expand the scope of history research.
Scholarly Journals
History Resource Center: U.S. contains the full text of more than 90 scholarly history journals and periodicals. Others will be added as the database is updated.
Unique Reference Sources
The database contains thousands of encyclopedic articles — content built from the foundation of classic Macmillan Reference USA and Charles Scribner's Sons information, as well as other Gale proprietary content, such as country and era overviews.
Original Documents
History Resource Center: U.S. contains more than 800 original documents, including 450 complete monographs. Each document can be viewed in text form accompanied by editorial commentary, or in image form as a facsimile of the original. Original documents are present for all history themes in the database.
Maps & Pictures
A wealth of photographs and illustrations accompany the encyclopedic reference articles in History Resource Center: U.S. In addition, the database contains more than 40 historical maps not published in any other online resource. High resolution versions of the maps can be downloaded for detailed study.
Special Collections
In response to any type of search, the database will also display annotated links to special collections that can be directly accessed over the Internet.
Spotlight On
Spotlight On... is a special feature of History Resource Center: U.S. that draws information from the database and relates it to current events. Updated regularly, it serves as a reminder to researchers that history is as much a part of the present as the past.
Digital Forum
An innovative feature designed to establish a dialog on history within the user community. It allows individual users at different locations to participate in moderated discussions about articles in the database or about their favorite topics in history.
Chronology
The Chronology is a visual timeline that relates U.S. history to world events. As users slide a marker along the timeline, different predefined periods in U.S. history appear. For each period, two sets of links to articles in the database come up — one relating to U.S. history and the other to world events.
